IN MEMORIAM: Costas Koutsopoulos

Dear Actuarial Community,

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Mr. Costas Koutsopoulos, former chairperson of the AAE.
Mr. Koutsopoulos, a distinguished actuary, studied at both MIT and Princeton in the USA, and was a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries, and a Fellow of the Hellenic Actuarial Society.

His illustrious career included serving as the representative of Greece in the Actuarial Association of Europe and in the International Actuarial Association (IAA) from 1981 to 2006.

Mr. Koutsopoulos held the esteemed position of chairperson of the AAE during the period 2005-2006, and in 2012, he was honored as an Honorary Member of the AAE in recognition of his unwavering commitment.

In addition to his numerous accomplishments, Mr. Koutsopoulos was bestowed with the title of Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of the Aegean in Greece.

His dedication to the actuarial profession was instrumental in the founding and development of the discipline in Greece.

The Actuarial Association of Europe joins the Hellenic Actuarial Society in mourning the loss of a visionary leader whose legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.

May Mr. Costas Koutsopoulos rest in peace and may his contributions to the actuarial profession forever be remembered.
